- This Release:
-
- TODAY Database - January 1993, Version 3.01
-
- TODAY was complied from information gathered from many sources, and while
- believed to be correct and reliable, there is no guarantee of its accuracy
- and no liability is assumed for its use. The database is subject to change
- without notice.
-
- ____________________________________________________________________________
-
- User Information:
-
- SHow/TODAY brings you a bit of past history, news, including a perpetual
- calendar covering the years 1970 to 2029. Did you know that on ...
-
- * 0330 in 1853 a patent was granted for a pencil with an eraser, or
- * 0908 in 1930 the comic strip "Blondie" first appeared, or
- * 0821 in 1945 the FCC released 112-115.5 MHz to amateur use, or
- * 0921 in 1982 a strike (by who?) began which cancelled 112 of 224 games.
-
- SH/TODAY [date] - where [date] is a 4-digit number, 01-12 for the
- month, and 01-31 for the day; ie. SH/TODAY 0521 would display
- events for May 21st.
- To use the perpetual calendar, type SH/TODAY CALENDAR.

- Database Installation:
-
- PRIMARY SERVING NODE:
- ---------------------
- Step 1: As a Primary Serving Node, install the following files into your
- database directory, most commonly the PACKCLUS\DB directory:
-
- TODAY.FUL The database file
- TODAY.IDX The database index
-
- NOTE: The database index may not always be included. If it is missing,
- you will need to execute the following using the MAKEIDX utility:
-
- MAKEIDX TODAY.FUL 1200
-
- Step 2: Add the following two lines to your SYSOP.DAT file or database
- command file:
-
- SET/COMMAND TODAY #LIS TODAY.FUL/TODAY.IDX #PRE * #NF
- SET/COMMAND/COMMENT TODAY Today's History - Did you know...?
- |
- | adjust this space to line up with
- your other comment lines
-
- If you did not shut down the node to install the database, type in the
- above two lines as SYSOP commands. Be sure to add them at your first
- opportunity to your SYSOP.DAT or database command file!
-
- REMOTE NODE:
- ------------
- Other nodes may access the database from the SERVING node by adding the
- lines below following the procedure(s) indicated above in Step 2. If the
- callsign of the SERVING node where the database is installed is K6LLK,
- the other node(s) would add that callsign as shown.
-
- SET/COMMAND TODAY * * * * * K6LLK
- SET/COMMAND/COMMENT TODAY Today's History - Did you know...?
-
- PCDB USERS:
- -----------
- Users of the PacketCluster Database Reader program should install the
- database files into the directory shown in the SET/DIRECTORY line of their
- SYSOP.DAT file. If no entry, install in same directory where PCDB resides.
- Note the MAKEIDX comment shown in Step 1 above for the PacketCluster
- PRIMARY SERVING MODE.
-
- The commands entered in SYSOP.DAT should be the same as shown in Step 2
- above for the PacketCluster PRIMARY SERVING NODE.
-
- The SET/COMMAND/COMMENT line is optional.
-
- REVIEW & DELETE:
- ----------------
- After reviewing this file and PBTDB.TXT, you may delete them. Only the
- files TODAY.FUL and TODAY.IDX are required for operation. You should
- store the ZIP file in a safe place.
-
- DIFFICULTY:
- -----------
- Should any difficulty be experienced installing any database files, or you
- need more information, you may want to review the section Database Support
- in your PacketCluster manual, or the DOC file with PCDB.
